On 16 July, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued its judgement in the long awaited case C-311/18, Facebook Ireland and Maximillian Schrems, best known as “Schrems II”. We now know the Court’s view on the validity of the European Commission-approved Standard Contractual Clauses upon which most businesses have relied for transferring data outside of the European Economic Area.
