Overview

Matthew is a corporate partner with deep sector specific real estate expertise and a dedicated focus on real estate M&A transactions. He has experience in the acquisition, disposal and development of real estate in UK and European markets across a range of asset classes including commercial real estate, retail, hotels, logistics and student accommodation. His clients include institutional and private equity investors, developers and asset managers. 

Work highlights

Transactions of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed include:

  • Ho Bee Land: advising on their £718m acquisition of The Scalpel landmark office building in the City of London.
  • City Developments Limited (CDL): advising on the £395m purchase of the 23-acre mixed-use scheme and marina at St Katharine Docks from funds advised by Blackstone. 
  • Gamuda Berhad: advising the Malaysian property company on the entry into a joint venture with Castleforge and the acquisition by that joint venture of the 317,000 sq ft Winchester House for £257m.
  • GIC: advising the Singaporean sovereign wealth fund on its acquisition of approximately 95% stake in the Sani/Ikos hotels group from approximately €2.3bn.
  • Permodalan Nasional Berhad: advising on the £1.6bn acquisition of Battersea Power Station, one of the UK’s largest ever real estate transactions.
  • Lendlease: advising on its JV with Starwood Capital to acquire and deliver the £3.5bn Silvertown Quays, London development.

Education and qualifications

Matthew holds a Geography BA from the University of Nottingham, and a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law.
